The new 4-storey 22,000 sq ft multi-unit residential building is designed to provide affordable housing for single women currently experiencing homelessness in the Waterloo Region.
The project is being built entirely with cross-laminated timber, including the stair and elevator shafts. The project is located in Kitchener, Ontario. Design builder Melloul Blamey partnered with Edge Architects Ltd. and Cross Laminated Timber manufacturer Element5 and submitted a successful design build proposal in the spring of 2021. Vortex Fire served as the Building Code Consultant for the project.
